An amusing library patron enticer in front of a new Arizona Library.

Hello. I work for a very fun place, Creative Machines LLC, that just built a very cool sculpture for a local library near our shop in Arizona.  It a visually amazing, galvanized metal sculpture of words that is lit by powerful colored lights at night which then cast cool word shadows onto the library.   We would love to help contribute to the visual beauty of libraries and help entice library visitors.

Cool shots of it during the day and at night are below.
Daylight Shot of WondrousNight time shot with colored lights.
For more information about the library and the sculpture see http://www.library.pima.gov/locations/abbett/about.cfm

I'm curious if it is becoming more common for libraries to have curiosity building art piece out in front and how this impacts patron visits?

I don't know about curiosity art pieces, but I do think that libraries are becoming more than a place just to store books. It's about art, and architecture, and having an attractive and comfortable place to sit and read. I think it's fantastic.

Nice sculpture, by the way!

It would be very nice if things like that could be in our budget (tight to begin with and even more cuts to it this year.) We have to concern ourselves with practical things like books and materials and building repairs first. I would also harbor some worries about vandalism. Staff couldn't even keep a picnic table at our branch here because of it. =P But that is beautiful, and in a more perfect library world, I would certainly covet it or something like it! ^_^ Thanks for sharing the pictures!

no vandalism so far

It has been installed since June and the public response has been hugely positive, with no vandalism (a concern since the area is open to the public and unpatrolled at night). Even if there was vandalism, paint could easily be removed. Mechanical damage would be difficult to do (although possible) and would be harder to fix. It would take somebody a lot of work and my experience has been that people respect things that are strange and beautiful. I'm one of those glass half-full people, can't you tell.
